Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
